The Proper App Company ("we", "our", "us") publishes the HalalCheck mobile application ("the App"). This privacy policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal data.

2. Data We Collect

HalalCheck is designed to respect your privacy. We collect the minimum amount of data necessary for the App to function:

  • Scan history: stored locally on your device using SwiftData. This data is never sent to our servers.
  • User preferences: your selected madhab and other settings are stored locally on your device.
  • Anonymous device identifier: a unique anonymous identifier is sent to our community server when you vote on ingredients. This identifier cannot be used to personally identify you.
  • Purchase data: in-app purchases are processed by Apple and managed by RevenueCat. We do not store your payment information.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect:

  • Your name or email address
  • Any user account information (no account creation required)
  • Your geographic location
  • Your contacts, photos, or files
  • Any advertising identifiers

4. Third-Party Services

The following third-party services may have access to limited data:

  • RevenueCat: subscription management. Receives an anonymous identifier to validate your subscription status. Privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy
  • Apple: payment processing. Privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy
  • Open Food Facts: public product database API. The barcode you scan is sent to their servers to retrieve product information. Privacy policy: openfoodfacts.org/privacy
  • Community server: receives your anonymous device identifier and votes on ingredients. No personally identifiable information is transmitted.

5. Data Security

Your data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData. All communications with external services are encrypted via HTTPS.

6. Data Retention

Your scan history and preferences remain on your device as long as the App is installed. Uninstalling the App deletes all local data. Votes submitted to the community server are retained anonymously.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the following rights:

  • Right of access to your data
  • Right to rectification
  • Right to erasure — you can delete all local data by uninstalling the App
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to object

8. Children

The App is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

9. Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised update date.
